The UN Security Council has rejected Russia's "humanitarian" resolution on Ukraine

On Wednesday, 23 March 2022, the UN Security Council did not approve a "humanitarian" resolution on Russia.

Deutsche Welle reported this.

Only Russia and China voted in favor of the resolution. The other 13 members of the Security Council (France, Great Britain, the United States, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, and the UAE) abstained.

It is noted that the resolution called for a "ceasefire to evacuate the civilian population achieved through negotiations." To be approved by the UN Security Council, the project had to receive at least nine votes in favor. If the required number of votes is not obtained, the project is not considered approved, even if none of the countries vetoed it.

As Russia is the aggressor in the war with Ukraine, representatives of Western countries at the UN called the introduction of this resolution "cynical" and "offensive."

On Thursday, 24 March 2022, the UN General Assembly is also to vote on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine. Western diplomats hope that an overwhelming majority will approve a tough resolution presented by Ukraine and strongly condemning Russian aggression.

Earlier, most members of the UN Security Council rejected Russian fakes about the US "bio laboratories" in Ukraine. On 26 February 2022, Russia voted against the UN resolution condemning its invasion of Ukraine.
