A ceasefire is not enough to lift sanctions - Johnson

At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, 29 March, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine would not be enough to lift sanctions against the aggressor country, reports Reuters.

"The prime minister said a ceasefire alone would not be cause for UK sanctions to be removed on Russia," Johnson's spokesman told reporters, giving his account of the cabinet meeting.

"He said the pressure on [Russian President Vladimir - Reuters] Putin must be increased both through further economic measures and providing military aid to ensure Russia changes course completely," he added.

The other day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with Johnson the critical humanitarian situation in the blocked cities and spoke about the course of peace negotiations. The parties discussed tightening sanctions against Russia and defence cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, called on NATO member states to help Ukraine fight against Russian aggression at the NATO summit.

He also informed that the British would hand over 6,000 missiles to Ukraine, including antitank grenade launchers and high-velocity Starstreak air defence systems.
