The territory of Sumy region is completely free of the occupiers. Dmytro Zhyvytsyy, the Goveror of Sumy region stated.
“The territory of the region is free from the orks, so if you hear an explosions (lots of them these days) - it is the rescue and explosives technician teams at work, - writes Zhyvytskyy. - They are neutralising the ammunition left by the russian military on our land”.
He also stressed the territory of the region is not considered safe:
“There are lots of mined and unexplored ares. Do not drive by the roadside and on forest roads. Do not approach destroyed equipment or the ork camp sites! I know, those places look terrible, but it is not time for cleaning up yet. Demining first.”
Yesterday Zhyvytskyy called for a return to the idea of building a barrier on the border with russia. “Border regions and the whole country will not feel safe as long as the barrier is not built on the border with russia’, - said Zhyvytskyy.
This reaction is caused by the state of the freed cities after the occupiers.
“What we saw in the freed communities, the places they’ve held… It’s something terrible, the russian military themselves turned normal conditions into unhuman ones, they ate and defecated in the same place. They stole everything they saw, smashed and destroyed things”, - Said Zhyvytskyy.
The idea to build a barrier on the border with russia is not new - it’s author was the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk in 2014. His project was to create and engineering structure over more than three thousand kilometres along the Ukraine-russia border, such as: anti-tank trenches, non explosive obstacles, fortification of strongpoints and positions and so on.The project started in 2014 and was to be completed in 2018, but later it was continued till 2021. As of 2021, according to the information of the Border Guard Service, only 400 kilometres of the anti-tank trenches, 100 kilometres of the fence and 70 kilometres of barb wire were constructed on the border with russia. A number of people responsible for the project were suspected in misuse of funds.
