Shipyards in Russia are shutting down ship production due to a lack of foreign components.
This was reported by the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
"Russian shipyards are in a critical situation on existing contracts implementation for the construction and maintenance of warships. The reasons are the difficult financial situation and the lack of foreign components," as mentioned in a statement.
In particular, JSC "Eastern Shipyard" (Vladyvostok) must fulfill government orders totaling 35b rubles for the construction and supply of two sea-going tankers, two small missile ships, two mobile sea berths, and various types of ships and boats repair and maintenance.
"However, from the letter of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense military representative it becomes clear that at the beginning of April 2022, due to the difficult financial situation, all work was suspended. Staff is being laid off and the contract's delivery dates have been disrupted. The company itself is preparing for bankruptcy,” the Chief Directorate of Intelligence mentioned.
The next letter from the military representative indicates a total lack of foreign components to continue work on the warships' construction and systems for them. The production of the following equipment had to be stopped: steering columns, navigation systems, radio stations. The letter authors report that it is impossible to find Russian or Asian substitutes for imported components.
The production of powder charges for naval artillery was also stopped due to the lack of foreign components and Russian analogs.
"Obviously, the Russian military-industrial complex remains dependent on imported high technology. Russia is unable to continue production of modern weapons without these supplies, " the Chief Directorate of Intelligence added.
