On April 21, russia shelled the island of Khortytsya in Zaporizhzhya. And it was not accidental, because “Khortytsya was once a hearth of the Cossacks and the Zaporizhzhya Sich is our place of power”.
Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko stressed that.
According to him, there is a museum on the island, which “was included in the “Big Restoration” and we carefully restored it”.
“But this target was chosen for a reason. Khortytsia was once a hearth of the Cossacks and the Zaporizhzhya Sich is our place of power. This is a very significant page of Ukrainian history that is so annoying to russia,” Tkachenko stressed.
As a result of the shelling of Khortytsya, the building of the health resort of one of the enterprises there was damaged. Eight people were injured.
Tkachenko also added that his office continues to search for the unique collection of Yukhym Kharabet, which the russians stole from the Mariupol Museum of Medallic Art.
“These cases describe the enemy's goal of destroying hearths of Ukrainian culture and stealing what can be stolen. The Nazis behaved similarly during World War II. But the rushist will be held accountable for every crime. I believe that it will happen very soon” the Minister added.
According to Oleksandr Tkachenko, 200 objects of the cultural heritage of Ukraine destroyed by russian aggressors have been recorded.
