Britain has promised Ukraine new military aid worth £1.3 billion ($1.6 billion). The new pledge almost doubles Britain's previous spending commitments on Ukraine, The Guardian and Reuters inform.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson, announcing the decision to provide new support, said that "Putin's brutal attack is not only causing untold devastation in Ukraine – it is also threatening peace and security across Europe."
The extra spending on Ukraine will come from a reserve used by the government for emergencies.The government also said Johnson will host a meeting of leading defence companies later this month to discuss increasing production in response to increased demand created by the war in Ukraine.
Britain has already helped Ukrainians with anti-tank missiles, air defenses and other weapons. Last month, Foreign Minister Liz Truss said the West should double its support for Ukraine.
In addition to the military, Britain also provides humanitarian support. The other day, the government allocated £45 million to the most vulnerable Ukrainians affected by russian aggression.
