About 100 civilians remain on the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, - announced on Monday evening, May 9, by the Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko.
"Currently, about 100,000 people live in Mariupol. There are people who do not want to leave the city. And more than a hundred civilians remain in Azovstal," Kirilenko said on a telethon.
The head of the Donetsk region stressed that the enemy does not stop shelling the plant.
"Aviation there is constantly working. It is quiet only sometimes during the evacuation. The russians are not interested in people leaving for the territory controlled by Ukraine," the official said.
According to him, the evacuation process is "difficult" due to the long filtration carried out by the russian military.
On May 7, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said all women, children and the elderly had been evacuated from Azovstal.
However, the leadership of the Azov National Guard regiment said that there still could be civilians under the rubble at Azovstal.
