Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis believes that the eviction of russian President Vladimir Putin and regime change in Russia is the only way to protect the West and allies from future threats from Moscow.
In an interview with the Associated Press, he said Putin's speech at the May 9 parade was "not impressive" and that the generals' grim faces were a sign of defeat in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the "wounded" Putin, in his opinion, may be even more dangerous, and the only way to eliminate the threat is to remove him.
"From our point of view, as long as the current regime is in power, the surrounding countries will be in danger to a certain point. Not only Putin, but the whole regime, because, you know, you can change Putin and his inner circle, but he can be replaced by a new Putin," said the Lithuanian Foreign Minister.
Landsbergis added that russia's aggression was proven by the war in Georgia in 2008 and the first invasion of Ukraine in 2014.
On May 6, Gabrielius Landsbergis and his colleagues from Latvia and Estonia paid a visit to Kyiv. The foreign ministers met with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. They offered to help Ukraine rebuild the social infrastructure destroyed by the war, including schools and kindergartens.
