US President Joseph Biden signed a law allocating $ 40 bln to Ukraine by the end of fiscal year 2022, September 30.

This was reported by the Voice of America with reference to the White House press service.

The text of the law, after a vote in the US Senate this week, was delivered to the president for signature in South Korea, where Biden is on a visit.

The President of the United States thanked the leaders of both houses of Congress "for the speedy introduction of this bill to ensure that funding for these important needs will not stop."

"The resources I have requested allow us to send even more weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, replenish our supplies and support US troops stationed in NATO territory," the White House said in a statement.

The new aid package provides $ 6 bln for weapons for Ukraine and training of the armed forces, more than $ 8 bln are to replenish US military supplies, which have decreased due to the provision of weapons to Ukraine. Nearly $ 4 bln in funding will go to strengthening US forces in the European region. More than $ 8 bln will go to economic support for Ukraine, etc.

On May 12, Kentucky Republican Sen. Randall Paul single-handedly blocked an expedited procedure for considering a new aid package for Ukraine. The senator introduced a draft amendment to the bill, proposing to create a separate inspector who would check the allocation of funds under this package.

However, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on May 13 that if the bill is not passed by next Thursday, May 19, it could affect the ability of the United States to provide uninterrupted military assistance to Ukraine.

On May 17, in a procedural vote, the US Senate approved the allocation of $ 40 bln to Ukraine.

On May 20, CNN reported, citing sources, that Biden could sign a law allocating $ 40 bln in financial assistance to Ukraine during its stay in South Korea.
