Ukraine has enough grain to meet domestic and global demand in 2022 and possibly 2023.
The President's website reports that the Adviser to the President of Ukraine on economic issues, Oleh Ustenko, stated this information in a comment to the American newspaper Newsweek.
Ustenko noted that from the very beginning of the aggression, the russians had planned to blockade Ukrainian ports to create a food crisis in the world and to put as much pressure as possible on the West.
"RF wanted to use food as a weapon, among other things," - he said. The Adviser to the President added that russia is currently targeting all the ships that enter the Black Sea.
"I believe that the only way to bring grain to world markets is to stop the war or at least stop all military actions in the Black Sea," - emphasized he.
We should keep in mind that russian troops' blockade of Ukrainian ports does not allow Ukraine to sell surplus food abroad.
Before russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine exported more than 6 million tons of grain through the Black Sea every month. Due to port blockades, Ukraine has redirected exports to railways and roadways. But these ways have lower carrying capacity than ports. For example, in April, Ukraine exported only 617 thousand tons of products using the railway.
The Office of the President stated that military convoys for dry cargo are an option for unblocking Ukrainian ports.
