The Pentagon will sign a $1.2 billion contract with Raytheon Technologies for the production of six NASAMS air defence systems for Ukraine, Reuters reports citing its sources.
According to the source, the official announcement of the contract is expected next Tuesday.
These six NASAMS systems are part of the fifth Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) package which was announced on 24 August. It had a total value of $2.98 billion.
The contract is for the NASAMS batteries, training, and logistical support to Ukraine's Armed Forces.
Funds for the two other NASAMS came from the third USAI package announced in July.
Last week it was reported that the U.S. Army is accelerating its weapons acquisition process to speed through a backlog of contracts needed to replenish U.S. stocks of weapons.
