Russian mercenaries from the Wagner PMC continue to arrive in Belarus. A little more than 5,000 Wagner members are currently deployed there, the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, has told the news telethon, according to Suspilne.
"Belarus supports Russia by providing its training grounds and infrastructure, including for the deployment of Russian mercenaries, not just units of the regular Russian army. At the same time, we do not observe any movements of either equipment or personnel of various units near our border," he said.
According to Demchenko, the situation on the border remains fully controlled by the Ukrainian Defence Forces, including State Border Service units.
"Ukraine's intelligence units, including the State Border Service intelligence, are actively monitoring the situation, to what extent it may change and pose a threat to Ukraine. But at the moment, the number of representatives of the Wagner PMC in Belarus does not pose a significant threat to Ukraine," he added.
According to earlier reports, more than a hundred mercenaries of the Wagner PMC went to the Suwalki corridor, which unites Lithuania with Poland and separates Russia's Kaliningrad Region and Belarus.
