President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Serhiy Lupanchuk from his post as Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The relevant decree was published on the President's website.
"Dismiss Lupanchuk Serhiy Kostyantynovych from the post of Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the text reads.
By another decree, the president appointed Brigadier General Oleksandr Trepak to the post of commander of the Special Operations Forces.
"To appoint Oleksandr Serhiyovych Trepak as the commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," it reads.
Oleksandr Trepak (call sign "Redut") is a Hero of Ukraine, was the commander of the Kirovohrad 3rd Special Forces Regiment, and was later appointed Chief of Staff - Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Trepak commanded the defence of Donetsk airport. The defence of Donetsk airport was a heroic operation by the Ukrainian army that lasted more than 240 days.
Earlier today, Zelenskyy also appointed a new commander of the Armed Forces Support Forces. He is Major General Dmytro Hereha.
