Cinema is a powerful tool for mass communication, and Ukraine is currently underperforming in this area. There is a need to review the tasks of the State Film Agency, its structure and subordination.
Currently, this institution is subordinated to a minister of the Cabinet of Ministers, and this needs to be changed. Olena Kovalska, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, said this during a discussion as part of the New Country project by LB.ua and EFI Group "Ukrainian culture as one of the main tools of our victory".
"Depending on what tasks this organisation will have, the structure will either be changed or refined," Kovalska said.
In her opinion, when choosing a new head of the State Film Agency, the international component should be taken into account, as it was when choosing a new Minister of Culture (career diplomat Tochytskyy). Kovalska noted that the new head should at least speak English.
