Kyiv came under a Russian attack involving strike drones, cruise missiles launched from strategic aircraft, and ballistic missiles fired from the Bryansk and Kursk Regions. As of 13:00, five people are known to have died, according to Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration. The fifth victim is a 12-year-old girl.
More than 20 people are missing.
A further 44 people have been injured, city authorities reported. According to Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, two children are among the injured. Thirty-one people were hospitalised.
Among the injured are a two-month-old baby and police officers. The air raid alert in the capital lasted for eight hours.
Damage from the strikes and falling debris was reported in the Holosiyivskyy, Darnytskyy, Desnyanskyy, Dniprovskyy, Obolonskyy, Pecherskyy, Solomyanskyy and Shevchenkivskyy districts of the capital.
A search and rescue operation is ongoing in the Darnytskyy district, where people may still be trapped under the rubble. There are water supply disruptions on the left bank of the city. According to Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, debris fell onto the roof of a five-storey building in the Dniprovskyy district, causing a fire. In the Holosiyivskyy district, debris fell onto a roadway. In the Shevchenkivskyy district, a building was hit. In the Obolonskyy district, debris fell onto a car park and a business centre, while a flat on the 12th floor of a residential building was also damaged.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, added that a car caught fire in the Solomyanskyy district, while a non-residential building was damaged in the Obolonskyy district.
The worst damage was recorded in the Darnytskyy district, where a strike destroyed a residential building and left people trapped under the rubble.
In total, damage has been recorded at 20 locations across the capital, the president reported.
“These are ordinary residential buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic and other purely civilian infrastructure,” he said.
Eleven multi-storey residential buildings, 27 cars, a supermarket, two car showrooms, two petrol stations, a business centre and a car repair shop were damaged.
