Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets has appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to help introduce a “ceasefire regime” on July 3 to carry out the evacuation of civilians from temporarily occupied Oleshky and other settlements in the Kherson Region.
The ombudsman said this during a press conference marking the fourth anniversary of his tenure, Ukrinform reports.
According to the ombudsman, this concerns the need to halt hostilities from 09:00 to 18:00 to ensure the safe departure of civilians from areas where a humanitarian crisis is currently unfolding.
Lubinets stressed that Oleshky is facing a difficult humanitarian situation, and that the Russian side is blocking the evacuation of civilians, including children, from the city and nearby settlements. At the same time, he noted that some residents have already been evacuated, but these efforts have been sporadic.
Separately, the ombudsman said that Ukraine continues to demand the return of pupils from the Oleshky boarding school. He said some of the children have already reached adulthood, but at the time of the occupation they were minors, so the state continues to insist on their return.
Lubinets added that some of the boarding school’s pupils have already been brought back to territory controlled by Ukraine.
