Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Russian military personnel have executed at least 345 Ukrainian servicemen who had surrendered.
Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, said this during a press conference at Ukrinform.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have documented at least 345 cases of Ukrainian servicemen being killed and executed after video evidence showed that they had done everything possible to surrender,” Lubinets said.
According to him, Ukrainian soldiers laid down their weapons, emerged with their hands raised or lay on the ground to demonstrate that they had ceased fighting.
The ombudsman said there were cases in which Russian soldiers searched the Ukrainians for weapons and then killed them.
“We have documented cases where they were ordered to remove all their clothes. They were then forced to lie on the ground and Ukrainian servicemen were shot at point-blank range,” he said.
Lubinets stressed that killing soldiers who have surrendered is a separate war crime.

The United Nations has documented 129 cases of Ukrainian prisoners of war being executed at the beginning of their captivity.

A further 48 Ukrainian prisoners of war died as a result of torture, denial of medical care or other inhumane conditions of detention.
