At the Louvre, two men stuck two paintings to a wall in the room where Leonardo da Vinci’s famous masterpiece, the "Mona Lisa", is displayed. The incident took place on Saturday, 19 September.
As France24 reports, museum security detained the men and called the police. They were arrested over minor damage to the museum wall.
One of the paintings, attached to the wall with adhesive tape, depicted one of the men in armour. The other was a portrait of both detainees together with a woman.
During questioning, the men said they staged the stunt for fun.
According to police sources, once the Louvre files an official complaint about the damage caused, both men are expected to be summoned to court.
The "Mona Lisa" was not damaged. The painting is behind thick protective glass, which kept it safe during the incident.
The incident comes amid heightened security measures in French museums. Recently, the country has recorded a series of robberies at museums and galleries, drawing attention to possible shortcomings in security systems.
