During the Russian attack overnight on 7 November, Ukraine neutralised only four of the 36 missiles that were flying towards their targets on a ballistic trajectory. Among them were North Korean ballistic KN-23 missiles. Examinations at the impact sites are currently under way, as is work to restore damaged infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this following a conference call on the consequences of the strike.
According to the head of state, Ukraine continues to face a significant shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. The United States, above all, can help to overcome it. The Ukrainian side is working to speed up deliveries and is communicating with American partners about the assistance needed.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russia is intensifying strikes on Ukraine and its infrastructure precisely during a period of stepped-up diplomatic efforts. He said Moscow is trying to put pressure on Ukraine’s position and that of its partners in this way.
The President also said that, according to preliminary examination results at one of the key energy facilities damaged during the attack, Russia used KN-23 missiles manufactured and supplied by North Korea. He called this an additional argument in favour of strengthening international sanctions.
Separately, the meeting discussed the situation in Kyiv.
President Zelenskyy instructed the head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ivan Vyhivskyi, together with the relevant agencies and the Kyiv City State Administration, to prepare contingency public transport routes and provide additional transport. According to the President, at present there are effectively no such contingency plans at city level.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi also reported on the restoration of energy facilities and the forces involved. The military presented proposals on the use of electronic warfare capabilities, including identifying directions for scaling them up.
In addition, Ukraine is preparing for meetings in the G7 format. Zelenskyy said he is counting on new contributions from European countries to the PURL programme, for which there are already preliminary commitments.
New energy support packages and deliveries of equipment for Ukrainian logistics are also expected.
- According to the Air Force, overnight Russia used Iskander-M, Zircon, KN-23 and S-400 missiles against Ukraine, as well as 172 attack UAVs. Air defences shot down four missiles and 149 Russian drones. The main direction of the attack was the Kyiv region.
- In the Kyiv region, Russian forces attacked substations that connect the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants with Kyiv and central regions of Ukraine.
- Damage was also recorded at substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
