Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed the decree on the establishment of the Chornobyl radiation and environmental biosphere reserve.

According to his press service, the newly-established biosphere reserve will become one of the largest environmental institutions of Ukraine. It is located on the territory of Ivankiv and Polissya districts of Kyiv Region within the exclusion zone and zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement.

"The establishment of the Chornobyl radiation and environmental biosphere reserve has become the first important step in the revival of territories contaminated by the man-made disaster," it said.

On 26 April, Ukraine is marking the 30th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.
