The State Border Service has stepped up security arrangements ahead of 24 August, Ukraine's Independence Day, it has said on its website.
"As of 20 August, the State Border Service and other law-enforcement agencies have beefed up security. Ahead of the state holidays, State Flag Day and Independence Day, all offices of the State Border Service have focused efforts on ensuring security and order at checkpoints along the state border, the line of contact in the antiterrorist operation area and the administrative border with temporarily occupied Crimea," the statement reads.
Human traffic usually peaks during that period because of the end of summer holidays, preparations for the state holidays and a new school year.
There will be more regular and dog patrols. IDs and vehicles are subject to tighter checks.
