President Petro Poroshenko will nominate a candidate for head of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) to parliament by the end of September, presidential envoy to parliament Iryna Lutsenko has said.
"By the end of September, the president will nominate a candidate for the chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine to parliament. There are two candidates, bankers, who are independent, equidistant from political influence, etc. The nominee will be introduced by the middle or, at the latest, the end of the month," Lutsenko said on Channel 5 TV on Monday.
On 11 May, NBU governor Valeriya Hontareva went on leave. Her first deputy Yakov Smoliy is filling in for her.
The top candidates for the post are Raiffeisen Bank Aval board chairman Volodymyr Lavrenchuk, the chairman of the public board of the NBU Council, Anatoliy Huley, the board chairman of the Association of Banks, Stanislav Arzhevitin, and the chairman of the NBU Council, Bohdan Danylyshyn.
