In the evening of 23 January, President Petro Poroshenko held talks in Kyiv with US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker. The parties discussed the lack of progress in the implementation by Russia of security provisions of the Minsk agreements as shelling continues in Donbas and the occupation troops are not withdrawn, the press service of the head of state said.

"Moscow must finally demonstrate political will for a peaceful settlement and agree to the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied Donbas, including along uncontrolled section of the Russian-Ukrainian border," the report said.

Poroshenko and Volker touched upon the release of hostages and the newly adopted law on the reintegration of Donbas.

Both sides expressed support for a peaceful political and diplomatic settlement of the situation in Donbas.

Volker arrived in Ukraine on the afternoon of 23 January and had met with the chief of the General Staff, Viktor Muzhenko, and the minister for ATO affairs and the occupied territories, Vadym Chernysh.

Volker was planned to go to Donbas, but because the travel was postponed because of the bad weather in the east of Ukraine.

On 26 January, Volker is to meet with the Russian president's aide Vladyslav Surkov in Dubai.
