Last year 22.9% of Ukrainians worked in the shadow economy, that is without official employment, the UNN news agency has quoted the State Statistics Service as saying.
In 2017, the number of unofficially employed people aged 15-70 reached 3,695,600, or 22.9% of the total number of the employed population of corresponding age.
The shadow sector employed 1,514,700 women, or 19.5% of the total employed population, and 2,180,900 men, or 26%.
In urban areas, unofficial employment is lower, 15.3% of unofficially employed Ukrainians, while in rural areas this figure is 39.6%.
Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade reported that the gray economy shrank to 33%.
