Two Ukrainian servicemen were killed and nine wounded amid 53 attacks by the Russian occupying forces, including with the use of heavy mortars and banned artillery on 30 occasions, the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) press centre has said on Facebook.
"JFO units gave an adequate answer, preventing the occupiers from pushing our units from the advantageous defensive positions," it added.
In the Luhansk sector, militants stepped up fighting near Troyitske.
In the Donetsk sector, JFO units continued active defence near Zaytseve, Luhanske, Novoluhanske, Mayorsk, Shumy, Zalizne, Pivdenne, Novhorodske, Avdiyivka, Maryinka and Novohnativka. Engagements continued in the area of Mariupol close to Chermalyk, Vodyane and Shyrokyne.
"Over the past day, the enemy has been taking active offensive steps to squeeze our servicmen from liberated Pivdenne by attacking them from three directions. It sowed panic among Horlivka civilians, firing directly at Toretske," the JFO said.
It added that counter-sniper measures were taken near Avdiyivka and Maryinka. As a result, attacks against the Ukrainian army positions stopped.
According to intelligence, 15 militants were killed and 13 wounded.
According to the Joint Centre for Coordination and Control of Ceasefire, the enemy fired 13 bombs at Zaytseve.
A Maryinka resident was killed during a militant shooting attack.
