President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reacted to a petition calling for the immediate dismissal of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov.
According to the official reply published on the president's website, it is up to parlimant to dismiss the interior minister.
"Under the Constitution of Ukraine, the interior minister of Ukraine is dismissed on the initiative of the prime minister of Ukraine and it is within the remit of the Ukrainian parliament," it says.
The petition received the required minimum of 25,000 signatures to be considered by the president within a matter of days in early June shortly after a boy got killed by apparently drunk police officers. The minister said that he was not going to step down.
