At the trilateral talks on gas transit in Minsk, Russia has agreed to pay Ukraine 3bn dollars under the Stockholm arbitration ruling, presidential aide Andriy Yermak has said, according to Hromadske.

"We are returning home with very good news, and we will have a transit contract on terms that are favourable to Ukraine. Thanks to these agreements, Ukraine will receive 3 billion dollars according to the decision of the Stockholm arbitration," Yermak said.

He added that Gazprom will pay off its debt with money.

The previously discussed options include paying off debt with gas or with Gazprom assets which were arrested on the request of Naftogaz in Europe.

Earlier it was reported that at the talks in Minsk Ukraine and Russia agreed to continue gas transit. The Russian and Ukrainian sides signed a protocol of agreements on the continuation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine and the settlement of mutual claims.

Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel and Naftogaz executive director Yuriy Vitrenko are expected to share the details on Saturday, 21 December.
