US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will visit Ukraine in early January, an aide to the president of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"A meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is planned for early January. I think that after this meeting there will be more clarity regarding a possible future visit of President Zelenskyy to the USA," he said, when asked whether Zelenskyy is expected to visit the USA next year.
According to Yermak, in US society "there is stable respect for President Zelenskyy, who in a difficult situation has taken a very principled, honest and dignified position".
The presidential aide insists that representatives of both US parties have this attitude.
At the same time, he noted that in the US media space "some things happen every day, but everyone already understands that the new team and President Zelenskyy definitely have nothing to do with all this".
"What is happening can be divided into everything that was before us and everything that has happened after we arrived. And everything that happens afterwards is dignified," Yermak said.
In early November some media reported that Pompeo cancelled his visit to Ukraine.
