The European Parlament recognized Ukraine’s European perspective and stressed that it will work on ensuring that Ukraine receives the status of the candidate for membership. It was reported by interfax.com.ua citing the President of the European Parlament, Roberta Metsola.
“We recognize Ukraine’s European perspective. Mr. President, we welcome Ukraine’s application for candidate status and will work to achieve this goal. We need to look into the future together,” she said.
Addressing the Ukrainian President, she assured that the European Parliament “supports you in your fight to survive in these dark times of our history.”
“When you look at the European Parliament, you will find an ally, a place for addressing Europe and the world, and always, always a friend,” Metsola said.
Yesterday President Zelenskyy signed an application for accession to the European Union. The signing took place against the background of barricades and trenches, which were erected due to the full-scale invasion of Russia. Today, Ukraine’s representative to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, handed it over to the Permanent Representative of France, who holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
