Without a wall, there will be no peace in the border regions, believes Zhyvytsky.

Head of the Sumy Military Administration revives the idea of building a wall on the Russian border

Ukrainian border regions and the rest of the country will not feel secure until there is a wall on the border with Russia, said the Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, Dmytro Zhyvytsky, during the national telethon, reports UNIAN

"Until we build the wall, a solid fortification along the entire border of Ukraine with Mordor (Russia - translator's note), we, especially the border regions, but also the rest of the country, will never feel secure," he said.

These words come in the wake of discovering the devastation left by russians in the liberated cities.

"What we saw in the liberated communities, where they'd been... It is not normal... They turned normal living conditions into something inhuman. They ate and relieved themselves in the same place. They stole everything they say, broke, destroyed," said Zhyvytsky.

He also told how the occupiers robbed an electrical room, leaving "garbage in the shape of their compatriots." "The irony is that 50 meters from there, they left the leftovers of their meal. On the borscht made in russia, one could read the inscription "we do not abandon our own." This clearly shows that their mottos mean nothing, even for them. One cannot call them human, even animals don't behave in this manner," said Zhyvytsky.

Building a wall on the border with Russia is not new. Then-Prime Minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenuk, proposed it back in 2014. The project envisaged the construction of fortifications along more than three thousand kilometres of the Ukraine-Russia border with anti-tank trenches, fortification obstacles, barbed wire, logistics points, etc. The construction began in 2014 and was supposed to be completed by 2018 but was extended to 2021. As of 2021, according to the Border Service of Ukraine, only 400 km of anti-tank ditches, 100 km of fence and 70 km of barbed wire were installed. Several officials were charged with embezzlement.
