Almost 11 million Ukrainians became internally displaced people or left the country due to the war, LB.ua reporter cites the Head of Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, Deoccupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Dmytro Lubinets.
“There are many more challenges now. If we talked about internally displaced persons (IDP) from the territory of the temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014, then it was about 1.5 million IDPs. Currently, this figure is about 11 million citizens. Of these, 4 million people left Ukraine. And 7 million people have been displaced inside our country,” he said.
According to him, the Committee and the Ministry of Reintegration work jointly on launching new humanitarian programs for IDPs’ adaptation.
“They would need to be financed to support our people,” Lubinets added.
He also stressed that the parliamentary committee continues to record the systematic violation of the basic rights of citizens of Ukraine in the temporarily occupied territories.
“This is the right to life… The right of movement, a system of filtration camps has been created. We even know their addresses. Two of them were created in the Donetsk region. These are the city of Donetsk and Dokuchaevsk. And another one was created in Russia in the city of Rostov. It is forbidden to move from one settlement to another… A system of maximum control over people has been created. All citizens of Ukraine from the age of 14 to 80 have to go through filtration camps. First of all, they are looking for men. All their data is being recorded. According to our data, those who have the status of anti-terrorist operation veterans are arrested and immediately killed. There is information about the executions of our soldiers in front of their families. It is also proposed to take an oath to the so-called Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics. If our people refuse, there are also penalties. People are taken to Dokuchaevsk or Donetsk… The Russian Federation does all this… Federal Security Service officers take part in all meetings and participate in this,” he stressed.
As of the beginning of May, there were 37 thousand registered internally displaced people in Kyiv. Most of them came from the Kyiv, Donetsk, and Chernihiv regions.
As of April, the number of displaced people - those who stayed in Ukraine and those who moved to other countries - was 10 million.
