Kyiv saves only 7% of electricity out of 30% required today, the city military administration has said.

It urged residents to save electricity and water to avoid forced shutdowns of the power grid.

"Therefore, in order to avoid rolling blackouts, it is necessary to limit the use of energy-intensive appliances during peak hours from 6.00 to 9.00 and from 17.00 to 23.00," the administration said.

It also asked businesses to turn off signs, lighting, not to leave lights on at night.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal recently said that during the evening peak, the level of electricity consumption in Kyiv decreased by 10% compared to the previous day, and in the entire central region by 8%.

Overall in the country, the level of evening electricity consumption yesterday increased by 1.8%. The growth was due to the western and northern regions of Ukraine.
