Ukraine and Hungary have agreed to open the Velyka Palad-Nagyhodos checkpoint for passenger vehicles and to allow the movement of empty trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes at the Luzhanka-Beregsurany checkpoint.
This was reported by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.
It is noted that the relevant amendments to the Agreement between the governments of the countries on border traffic control were signed by Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine - Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov and Ambassador of Hungary to Ukraine Heizer Antal.
According to Kubrakov, Ukraine continues to work consistently on the development of its western border to enhance export opportunities and ensure fast border crossing for passenger transport.
"The signed amendments to the Agreement with Hungary allow us to start planning design and infrastructure works to launch the new Velyka Palad-Nagyhodos checkpoint and ensure the movement of empty trucks at Luzhanka. We are also considering the possibility of building a new cargo checkpoint "Dyida-Berehdaroc" to increase the capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border," he said.
The minister added that the parties are working to launch substantive negotiations on the introduction of joint customs and border control with Hungary, which will speed up control procedures and reduce border crossing time.
After signing the amendments to the Agreement, the project must be ratified.
Currently, there are 5 road border crossing points with Hungary. Only the Chop-Záhony checkpoint can handle trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes. Both loaded and empty vehicles go there. About 220 trucks cross it daily to leave Ukraine.
