Latvia will allocate €10 million for the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine. This was announced by Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and Defence Minister Andris Sprūds following a closed government meeting, Delfi reports.
Sprūds said that the Latvian money could be used to buy more than three thousand 155 mm shells.
Kyiv will also receive a new batch of drones this summer. According to Sprūds, Latvia has recently sent about 100 drones to Ukraine. A second batch is planned for June. This will include almost a thousand combat drones of various capacities. So far, the coalition member states have announced funding of more than half a billion euros for the purchase of UAVs.
In 2024 and for the next two years, Latvia will provide Ukraine with military support in the amount of 0.25% of its GDP. This year, the amount will be €112 million.
