The first public Ukrainian-Hungarian school has opened in Hungary, the head of the Transcarpathian regional state administration, Viktor Mykyta, has said.
"This is a historic event for Ukrainians in Hungary, the significance of which is difficult to overestimate. The first state Ukrainian-Hungarian bilingual secondary school and gymnasium was registered in Budapest," Mykyta said.
He noted that this event was preceded by the long work of a specially formed bilateral working group headed by Andriy Yermak and Peter Szijjártó, as well as personal communication between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
"On 1 September, Ukrainian students living in Hungary will start attending a full-fledged five-day school, where the educational process will be conducted in their native language from grades 1 to 12. At the same time, the children will learn Hungarian as a foreign language, which will ensure their quality and comprehensive development in the country of residence," Mykyta said.
According to him, the educational institution is funded by the Hungarian state budget.
A separate building has already been prepared for the educational process, which meets all the requirements under the current legislation of the country.
