Ukraine will launch the production of 155 mm shells using the technology of the Norwegian company Nammo. The Norwegian government has paved the way for the transfer of its defence technologies to Ukraine.
This is stated in a statement by the Norwegian government.
‘Our government has taken several steps to increase the production of ammunition in Norway. At the same time, we recognise the importance of strengthening the capacity of Ukrainians to produce modern ammunition in Ukraine,’ said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
The Norwegian company Nammo has signed an agreement with the Defence Logistics Agency to increase the production of artillery ammunition and missiles.
According to the plan, the production of shells can be increased by 10 times, and other shells and rocket engines - by half. Production of 120 mm tank ammunition will also be increased.
‘We are allowing Nammo to significantly increase its production capacity to help meet the needs of Norway, NATO and Ukraine,’ said Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
It is known that in March, the Norwegian government allowed defence companies to obtain a licence from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to transfer technology to Ukraine.
Nammo is one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in Europe and is expected to help Ukraine with artillery shells.
In July, the Norwegian government allocated an additional NOK 1 billion to finance Ukraine's air defence.
