Militants stepped up attacks in the industrial area of Avdiyivka late on 22 March. According to the founder of the Come Back Alive volunteer movement, Vitaliy Deyneha, five Ukrainian soldiers were wounded, one of them gravely.
"I do not know what will happen in the morning. I do not remember any heavy engagements of this scale in the last six months… Separatists are moving ahead and fighting for every corner. For today, we have had more losses in the Avdiyivka-[Donetsk] airport area than in the two previous weeks. And the most horrible assault is under way now. According to people who were in the airport, 'to say 'hot' is to say nothing," Deyneha said on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the ATO press centre said that the militants intensified their attacks on Tuesday afternoon along the entire line of contact, firing on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces 44 times. In the Donetsk sector, the enemy fired on the Ukrainian strongpoints 38 times.
As reported earlier, engagements in the industrial area of Avdiyivka intensified in early March. The antiterrorist operation forces pushed the enemy from its positions and were able to keep the Donetsk-Horlivka motorway under their fire control. The separatists have been trying to recover their lost positions ever since.
