The trilateral contact group on a Donbas conflict settlement has issued a statement on commitment to ceasefire. Its representatives agreed on a comprehensive, sustainable and indefinite ceasefire in eastern Ukraine as of 30 March.

"The trilateral contact group with the participation of representatives of certain regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, recognizing the positive impact of reaffirming the commitment of the parties to the ceasefire on 2 March 2018, noting the importance of ensuring peace for the population, taking into account the upcoming Easter holidays, and also based on the earlier reached agreements and the commitments of the parties, reaffirms its full commitment to a comprehensive, sustainable and indefinite ceasefire, starting from 00.01 a.m. Kyiv time on 30 March 2018, "the statement reads.

The contact group called on both sides to impose a strict ban on shooting both in the direction of and from the side of population centres, as well as to abstain from offensive and reconnaissance operations.

The statement highlights the importance of effective application of disciplinary measures in cases of violations of the ceasefire.

The previous ceasefire was announced on 5 March. At first, the number of attacks was insignificant and certain days passed without a single ceasefire violation, but on 25 March, the antiterrorist operation HQ registered 44 fire attacks against the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
