Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said that the Interior Ministry is preparing for an operation to deoccupy Donbas, according to the ministry's report on Facebook.
"Today we are considering several scenarios for the east. We understand that the liberation of Donbas and restoration of control over the eastern border will be a police operation with the involvement of peacekeeping forces, not a military mission. The Interior Ministry's forces – police and guard – are getting ready for this option," he said.
He noted that the "efficiency of the National Police is especially obvious" in conditions of the Russian aggression.
The minister said on Twitter that he met a delegation of the American Foreign Policy Council thinktank under the US Congress for a "frank discussion on the status and prospects of Ukraine in conditions of Russia's military aggression, effectiveness of international sanctions and security cooperation".
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel plan to discuss a peacekeeping mission in Donbas on 10 April.
