A popular daily, Segodnya, associated with Ukrainian tycoon Rinat Akhmetov's SCM will discontinue its printed versions after 27 September 2019.

It will continue its operation online.

"The system of printed press distribution has been practically ruined, printing becomes more expensive in foreign currency, and the trends towards a higher cost will remain. Our readers in the regions often get the news that are two days (or even) old. The situation has only aggravated recently and we have made a business decision to suspend the production of a daily paper and focus on the development of the website and TV news under the Segodnya brand," the director of Media Group Ukraine, Yevhen Bondarenko, explained.

The Segodnya daily has been published since 1997.

Media Group of Ukraine is part of Akhmetov's SCM group.
