Mariupol is left without heat, water or electricity, there are three hundred injured people in hospitals, but hospitals are also under fire. The mayor of the city Vadym Boichenko announced this on several Ukrainian TV channels, reports Ukrainska Pravda.
We are shouting at all levels: the Armed Forces of Ukraine need help. Our heroic soldiers, the Azov Regiment, the National Guard, the Marines, the police are all fighting for our homeland. The Ukrainian flag is flying over Mariupol today. But we need military assistance, a corridor, and silence so that civilian population can be evacuated. I ask you, I beg you to support the city of Mariupol," said the mayor.
He noted that the city’s residential areas and infrastructure have been experiencing brutal shelling fifth day in a row.
"We are simply being destroyed by Grad missiles, howitzers, and aircraft. The shelling is ongoing at this moment. There is no way we can talk about stabilization," added the mayor.
According to Boichenko, the city has no heat, water or electricity, and is running out of food and medicines. Doctors have moved to hospitals with their families, but the hospitals are shelled too.
He reminded that during the talks on March 3 the parties agreed to create humanitarian corridors, in particular, for Mariupol.
"Now we are doing everything we can to organize this route. We are preparing for evacuation. But there is no silence yet, so it is very difficult to do. We have to do a lot of work, but first of all we need silence," said the mayor.
"I don't know if the Russian side has any wishes. Maybe they just wish to wipe Mariupol off the face of the earth," he added.
Earlier, it was reported that the Russian troops have interrupted the supply and prevented the restoration of electricity, water and heat in Mariupol. They have damaged railways, destroyed bridges, smashed trains, disrupted food supply, and are creating a blockade of the city.
