Ukraine has completed the questionnaire to get the European Union membership candidate status.

The Deputy Head of the Office of the president of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva stated that on the air of the united informational marathon, "Ukrinform" reports.

Now Ukrainian authorities expect to get the decision on the matter during the European Council meeting that will take place in June.

"There will be the European Council meeting in June, that is [the meeting – tr.] of all the member countries' leaders as well as the EU leadership, and in that meeting, we expect that Ukraine will get the EU membership candidate status. This is an important phase that cannot be omitted," – Zhovkva said.

According to him, now the European Commission has to prepare its recommendations regarding Ukraine's compliance with the Copenhagen criteria for membership. As Zhovkva added, he hopes for a positive reaction.

The OPU Deputy Head explained that in the case of getting the decision on the candidate status the negotiations on the full EU membership would launch. Those negotiations are to follow an abbreviated procedure.

"Today there is no EU member country that would oppose Ukraine's membership in the European Union. Countries' positions vary regarding the pace of the procedure that Ukraine should go through before it becomes a member. We talk to the countries that don't believe in the quick membership procedure, most of the countries are inclined to believe that Ukraine should go through this process quickly," – Zhovkva mentioned.

Ukraine on 8 April received from the EU the membership candidate status questionnaire. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen handed it over to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted then that the Ukrainian party would complete the document in a week.

Shortly, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna stated that Ukraine could receive the European Union membership candidate status in June.
