77 years after the victory over Nazism, war is raging again in Europe, and the world must step up its determination to confront those who seek to manipulate historical memory for their own ambitions. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in a statement issued by the US Embassy in Ukraine.
"The Allied victory over the Nazis should be hailed as an achievement made possible by collective heroism and sacrifice. President Putin is trying to twist history to try to justify his unprovoked and brutal war against Ukraine. Those who study the past know that President Zelenskyy and the brave people of Ukraine embody the spirit of the victors of World War II. They are courageously defending their country, their democracy and the future of Ukraine in a united, free and peaceful Europe," he said.
Blinken noted that it is everyone's sacred duty to those killed in World War II to tell the truth about the past and to support all those who stand up for freedom in our day.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recorded this year's address on the occasion of Remembrance and Reconciliation Day against the background of two Borodyanka apartment buildings destroyed by russian shelling.
He thanked the states that help Ukrainians fight in the new bloody war that came to our land 77 years after the end of World War II. The President emphasized: "No evil will escape responsibility. It will not be able to hide in a bunker. It will not leave a stone unturned. So, we will overcome everything, and we know this for sure, because all our military and people are descendants of those who defeated Nazism."
