Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in a conversation with US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen raised the issues of energy security and the passing of the heating season.

They discussed money to buy gas, according to the prime minister's Telegram post.

"We are negotiating a tranche of $1.5 billion from the US Eximbank for gas purchases," he said.

Shmyhal also thanked the Joe Biden administration for sending a request to Congress for an additional $11.7 billion for Ukraine.

"I told Ms Yellen about measures to support small and medium-sized businesses and the Ukraine Recovery Plan. Convinced that the USA is interested in helping us with reconstruction," he added.

Earlier, Shmyhal said that Ukraine had about 13bn cu.m. of gas in storage and over 2m tonnes of coal, which will allow it to pass the heating season.

Also, the Kyiv authorities may purchase mobile boiler houses. They will become a backup source of heat supply in case of emergencies during the heating season.
