The autobiographical book Dress-Up Game by writer and soldier Artem Chekh is being prepared for publication for a German-speaking audience. In translation, completed by Alexander Kratochvil and Maria Weissenbeck, the book will be titled Musik für einen Soldaten (“Music for a Soldier”).
Alexander Kratochvil was born in Munich in 1965 and translates from Ukrainian and Czech. For his translation of the novel Amadoka, completed together with Sofia Andrukhovych and co-translator Maria Weissenbeck, he received the 2024 Hermann Hesse International Prize. He also collaborated with Weissenbeck on the translation of Artem Chekh’s Absolute Zero.
Maria Weissenbeck was born in Vienna in 1980 and translates from Ukrainian and Belarusian. For her translation of the novel Amadoka, she received the 2024 Hermann Hesse International Prize together with Sofia Andrukhovych and co-translator Alexander Kratochvil. She also collaborated with him on the translation of Artem Chekh’s Absolute Zero.
