The Great Seven (G-7: USA, Italy, Germany, France, UK, Canada and Japan) welcomed the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the law on the healthcare reform and expect its swift implementation.

"This legislation is a significant step forward and is designed to ensure better healthcare provision for all Ukrainians, achieve efficient primary to tertiary health care, and eradicate corruption," reads the joint statement issued on Monday, 23 October.

"This achievement is just the first step and there is much work to do to ensure full implementation. It will be important to ensure that sufficient funding is allocated to the healthcare sector and that the necessary support is provided to the Ministry of Health. The G7 will continue to support reform in Ukraine," the statement emphasized.

On 20 October, MPs Ihor Oleh Shurma and Oleh Musiy, who are medics by education, and their fellow lawmaker Mykhailo Papiyev tabled a draft resolution on the reverse of the Verkhovna Rada 19 October vote on the key healthcare reform bill.
