Ukraine has reported an act of provocation when Ukrainian border guards in Luhansk Region were attacked with the use of small arms from the border area of the Russian Federation.
"At around 12:30 today areas near the village of Ushakivka in Luhansk [they] were attacked from the territory of the Russian Federation with the use of small arms as an act of provocation aiming at units guarding the state border of Ukraine," the press centre of the Ukrainian antiterrorist operation (ATO) HQ press centre said on Facebook on 8 February.
The border guards were not harmed and did not return fire.
"This shelling from the adjacent territory grossly violates the state border regime and endangers the lives of military personnel," the ATO HQ said. "In case of respective orders and depending on the situation, the servicemen are authorized to use weapons to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state," it added.
