The Interior Ministry has showed at a news conference the video statements of people who appear to be fake sponsors of presidential candidate Yuriy Tymoshenko.

A woman can be seen saying on the video that she was "just told to sign the documents". Another man said that he had "signed the documents without reading them".

"The mentioned criminal case was opened about a month ago. Journalists gave us the video after the first reports about the matter," the deputy head of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police, Maksym Tsutskyridze, said.

He added that the people on the video are residents of Odesa Region.

Yuriy Tymoshenko earlier said that he had borrowed the money to deposit 2.5m hryvnyas for his presidential application from his "farmer friends".

On 14 February, he said on Facebook that some people came from Kyiv to his village, who showed Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) cards and made people testify on camera under pressure.

Last week it was reported that there were attempts to bribe Tymoshenko into leaving the campaign, for which he was offered 5m hryvnyas. Investigators suspect MP Valeriy Dubil of Yuliya Tymoshenko's Fatherland party of being behind the bribe attempt.
