Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko considers it unlikely that early local elections will be held throughout the country due to a shortage of funds, but does not exclude that they can be held in Kyiv.
In an interview with LB.ua, he said: "In order to hold nationwide early local [elections], we need big money, several billion hryvnyas. The Cabinet of Ministers did not reserve these costs in the budget for this year, and it is unlikely that anything will change here. The economic situation is complicated, there is nowhere to take money from. Therefore, I do not rule out that the situation will develop progressively, and the battle for Kyiv will take place first,” the capital’s mayor said.
If the early elections of the mayor of Kyiv take place, he plans to run for the post again.
"I think Kyiv residents simply will not understand if I do not do it. Surrender is not among my principles," Klitschko noted.
