In addition to shelling Ukraine's critical infrastructure, Russia may suspend gas transit through the territory of our country towards Europe, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said at a government meeting.

"After seven months of the full-scale war, everyone understands that we are dealing with a terrorist country. Therefore, we must be prepared for Russian terrorist acts against our critical infrastructure. I mean primarily missile attacks, but this is not the only risk. In particular, we are talking about the probability of complete cessation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine to Europe. This scenario cannot be ruled out. Therefore, a plan for the most economical and efficient use of the available gas stock has been prepared," Shmyhal said.

He noted that the average temperature in Ukrainians' homes this winter may be lower than in previous years.

"Such a policy is being implemented by most European countries now. We live and work in conditions of war, and each of us should be understanding of these challenges," he added.

Ukraine is also working to protect critical facilities and create stocks of alternative energy resources for the period of emergency repairs.

In the summer, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed to allocate UAH 1.4 billion for the purchase of reserve equipment and materials. If Russia destroys some infrastructure facilities, they will help to provide people with heat and water.
